infoThis is an extremely bizarre story so amazingly unbelievable that it got many government agencies from the local police to TSA fumbling to figure out what went wrong and how to ensure nothing of this sort would ever happen again.

Here is a short version of the story:

Craig Hibbard, a California man, decided on his own that he wanted his Filipino wife removed.  So, he contacted his cousin, Gregory Raymond Denny, who agreed to make it happen.  Gregory Raymond Denny then put on a jacket bearing the US Marshal sign, with a fake badge and wearing a holstered gun, and started the plot.

“On January 15, 2010, Gregory Raymond Denny, Jr., a 37-year-old California man, barged into the Hemet residence of his cousin Craig Hibbard and the cousin's wife Cherriebelle Hibbard.” “He claimed to possess a deportation order …, but did not produce any immigration paperwork.”  He then handcuffed Cherriebelle and “marched the woman out of the house!”

Denny drove the woman to a border patrol station in Murrieta, CA where the real US border patrol officers refused to take custody of Cherriebelle for lack of deportation orders, but failed to verify Denny's identity.  So, Denny turned around and took the handcuffed woman back to her own home. The husband then purchased an airline ticket to the Philippines in his wife's name and “asked his mother to drive Denny and Cherriebelle to the San Diego International Airport."

“Denny sashayed through the airport security, while wearing his holstered weapon openly, by showing his fake US Marshal badge to three TSA officers.”  Denny took the woman in handcuffs to the gate and handed the ticket to Cherriebelle watching her board the plane, thus, perfecting the kidnapped deportation for his cousin!

Cherriebelle Hibbard was unaware of the plot against her and “did not know Gregory Raymond Denny was her husband’s cousin only until after she was unlawfully detained, transported and removed from the United States.”

Denny is now released on $50,000 bond and only “charged with Impersonating a Police Officer under PC 146(A) in case No. 201002710."

Can you believe that?

Here’s a departing note to the story: Cherriebelle Hibbard, actually a legal immigrant in the US, was five months pregnant when Denny handcuffed her and dragged her into this ordeal.
