If it is not scary enough to the illegal immigrants currently residing in Arizona already, as the controversial Arizona legislation of SB 1070 is set to become effective on July 29, 2010, exactly one month from today, here comes something that is so bold from an Arizona politician running for office that even some of his own party colleagues are trying to dismiss the idea.
Yu, South & Associates just learned, from NYDailyNews.com, Republican Barry Wong, a lawyer by profession and a 4-term sitting member on the Arizona Corporation Commission, an elected body that decides public utility issues, vowed to cut loose and make the illegal immigrants “powerless,” literally, by requiring utilities companies to check the immigration status of customers, if elected, as he told the newspaper Arizona Republic.
Wong believes cutting utilities, maybe even telephone lines, at the homes of illegal immigrants would lower costs for the rest of the state’s customers. The issue, according to Wong, is: whether utilities such as electricity, water, natural gas or telephone lines are a right or a service. Wong agreed that this issue deserves further study because the question is: “Is it the right thing to do?”
Others believe Wong was simply using this hot topic as campaign measures to gain notoriety, and you can click here to read more stories reported by NYDaily.com titled:
