Yu, South & Associates learned through American Immigration Lawyers' Association (AILA) that the USCIS has just announced that the adjudication of the requests for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has started and the first batch of such approvals are forthcoming in the next few days!
That's very good news and this also means we will be seeing some approvals forthcoming among those early DACA cases filed by Yu, South & Associates!
The not so very encouraging news is as of Sept. 10, 2012, the total count of all requests filed under DACA received by US Citzenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) was only 40,000 applications. This means many and many more eligible candidates have not made the requests or filed the applications yet. This less than expected initial response by eligible aliens could be either due to the immigrant communities' lack of awareness of the benefits provdied by DACA or the fear for adverse consequences if their applications were to be denied.
Yu, South & Associates strongly urges all potential candidates seek professional assistance to evaluate their individual situation on a case by case basis to determine their eligibility and if they should apply. For those eligible, there is really not that much to lose, but you can get a "work permit" for legal employment and with the "work permit" you can then apply for social secuirty card and a driver's license, too, if approved!
